Handfuls

Covent Garden

I was holding onto handfuls of expectation then summer came down like a waterfall

and took you away.

I lost a war I didn’t know I was fighting. I guess happiness came at a price

I wasn’t willing to pay.

Now, I’m lost between memories ’cause I was in your arms just yesterday.

I wish I never remembered but I could never forget. Your voice echoes at the back of my head. And, if I can drive anywhere, I’d drive to you ’cause nothing compares to winter because it smells like you.

Nights in sweaters,

counting colors,

our eyes are closed,

but I still see

the light radiating around me.

This is all I know.

This is what I hold onto.

This is why I don’t wash my bed sheets: because I don’t want to wash you away.

Love, Alyazya

  1. Sometimes we lose something or someone that we value so much… And it affects our life so much… Yet we need to pamper ourselves well to move ahead in life because our life has a better purpose than just brooding over the one who left us or we lost them.

It’s a beautifully written poem. Thanks for expressing yourself this way.
